9 High-Converting Lead Magnet Ideas to Build Your Email List

The first thing you need to do to start building your email list is to create a lead magnet that your readers will absolutely want to download. It means you should offer something valuable for free in return for a person’s email address. Lead magnets can come in the form of eBooks, templates, and other items of value to the prospect. This exchange is always set up to take place at some point during the buyer’s conversion path.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular and high-converting lead magnets.

1. The Checklist

Checklists work very well when you already have an instructional blog post. They are very easy to transform into checklists that you can offer as lead magnets to your prospects. All you have to do is summarize your already concise blog post into bullet points and you are ready to go. Split the list into more digestible chunks to make the outcome easy to grasp.

If you can also set up the checklist in a printable format, it increases the value. With this printable format, your prospects can print the checklist and cross off the list as they work through it. This gives them a physical sense of achievement as they go about their lives and business.

2. Webinar

Webinars are online seminars. They don’t have to be unnecessarily long and tedious. You must try to make them as interactive as possible to give your audience a sense of belonging to the project at hand. If you have a blog post that touches on a subject that you have great expertise on, you can use that blog post as a launchpad to drive people to your webinar where you get to talk a lot more in-depth about the subject.

You can easily convert your blog posts into PowerPoint presentations and present this document during your live video session with your guests. You can do this via any of the video conferencing platforms out there today. This kind of interaction and information sharing will give a lot more insight into the topic than a regular blog post can.

So to set this up as a lead magnet, you’ll be inviting people to your webinar to listen to you by requesting their email addresses. You can also ask them for questions that will allow you to get a feeling of how they want the course to go. Make sure you are clear on the details of the webinar and give them exactly what they signed up for.

3. E-book

An eBook is a more detailed account on any given subject that otherwise wouldn’t fit into a regular blog post. You can prepare a small eBook on the subjects you typically talk about and offer it to prospects in exchange for their email addresses. This approach is perfect when you have a collection of blog posts on a related subject. For example, if you were running an online health and fitness store, you can write eBooks on subjects like:

  • A guide to eating clean
  • The ultimate guide to losing weight
  • Top 10 healthy food alternatives
  • Tips for a healthy and active lifestyle

These kinds of posts are well suited for eBooks and they will be very effective as they quickly catch the attention of prospects that are already interested in those topics. This plays very well into lead magnets as you are offering valuable information and all they have to do is enter their email address. Rather than leaving them to wander around your website in search of content, you are presenting what they need to them from the get-go.

4. The Cheat Sheet

If your blog talks about the complicated and complex subject matter, it is a very good idea to give them a shortcut or cheat sheet guide on how to navigate that subject, they can easily refer back to this cheat sheet to refresh their memories when they get confused.

This kind of resource takes a lot of pressure off the readers so they don’t have to commit anything to memory to implement your strategies. Make your cheat sheet in a very compact manner that readers can easily glance through and understand.

5. The Resource Guide

A resource guide is very easy to create. The idea of this lead magnet is that you recommend resources and tools that can save your audience time and money. This guide can be a collection of anything and everything that will help them achieve the results they want to achieve.

6. Email Course

An email course is also very effective and the idea here is to segment all the information you have into smaller chunks that you can send to your prospects via email. They are in essence receiving course content periodically over email. This allows them to follow up on the subject matter with less pressure. With this approach, your email list will get used to receiving emails from you and this will help you build a stronger relationship with them. This approach works in any field as long as there is teachable information to be shared.

7. Reports

Your prospects might even appreciate something more than an eBook. In this case, you can send them reports on the subject matter you are involved with. Reports are great because they rank your brand in a different class as an authority on the subject matter. You can generate reports based on large scale studies or researches carried out alongside your partners in the industry. The only challenge with reports is how tasking they can be if you want to do them properly.

8. Coupons and Deals

This is more applicable to those in e-commerce. It is common knowledge that you won’t make as much money off your first-time clients as you would a returning buyer. This is because you invest a lot more to convince first time buyers to make a purchase. One such way you can encourage first-time buyers is through coupons and deals. When you offer these deals, you can ask them for contact information and chances they would oblige if your offer is attractive enough.

9. Quiz

People love quizzes. It doesn’t matter how silly you think it is, it somehow attracts people to just spend some time goofing around. While quizzes can be fun, they can also be very useful especially if you know how to set them up to build your email lists. This is quite similar to surveys in terms of strategy and you want to make them educational, engaging, and easy to participate in. Quizzes can be an excellent resource for lead generation.

There are so many lead magnet strategies that you can implement for your website or platform and the 9 that has been mentioned here are just some of the more popular ones. The idea is basically to create something of value that you can give to prospects in exchange for their email addresses. With their contact information, you can continue to correspond with them periodically thus maintaining a steady relationship with them over time.

How to Build Lead Generation Funnels?

If you want to build your email list with lead magnets, you must implement an automated welcome email sequence and communicate with your audience at least a few times a week.

Otherwise, there is no point in even starting. Therefore, you will need to use an email marketing software.

My own favorite is GetResponse because it has all the features to build good-looking landing pages with subscription forms, pop-ups for my web-page, sophisticated email automation sequence, and even simple lead generation and sales funnels. If you are serious about building your email list and eventually – sales funnel, I suggest you consider using GetResponse because you can easily build lead generation funnels like the one below and see the statistics for every step the visitors of your lead magnet landing page make.

Moreover, you can create automated email sequences for different segments of your audience, which is crucial in order to have great communication with your subscribers. You can start with their free version and gradually grow to the paid version with more sophisticated features.
